How to Send and Receive Faxes from Your Computer – Low Cost and Free Services
I use a couple of services to fax documents from my computer to a fax machine. Most of these offer free and premium options.
To Send Faxes
GotFreeFax.com will fax documents for free (up to 2 per day, 3 pages per fax max); their premium service is around 10 cents per page.
FaxZero.com also sends faxes online for free
Interfax.net is a low-cost service that allows faxing either online or directly from MS Office and Google Doc applications. The cost is around 10 cents per page, with a minimum of $10 to open an account. Activation is required for integration with MS Office. To fax an MS Office document in Office 2010, go to Filee > Save and Send > Send Using E-mail > Send as Internet Fax).
To Receive Faxes
eFax Free offers free incoming faxes (10/month), although the free service requires use of their fax reader and limited capacity for downloading documents; I use eFax for my fax number.
FaxBetter.com offers a free fax number, with faxes appearing as emails; I’ve not tried it, but the service looks good! (A premium plan is required to send faxes).
Faxburner.com offers a free fax number (I’ve not explored this further).
