Several excellent website performance and optimization tools are available.
GTmetrix.com provides a comprehensive performance tool.
Google Page Speed Tools: Analysis and Optimization. The ET post How to Improve your Google Page Speed Score provides excellent information–the bottom line:
- Use a performance booster plugin (best results were achieved with WP Performance Score Booster)
- Use a caching plugin (best results were achieved with WP Super Cache)
- Optimize images
P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler) – analyzes the plugins on your site.
Pingdom Tools: Site speed, DNS health, and ping/traceroute tools.
Some Tools to Increase Load Speeds:
Enable Gzip Compression. On Hostgator sites, and others using the Cpanel interface, select Software/Services > Optimize Website.
W3 Total Cache, a WordPress plugin with Browser Cache capacities (compatible with Weaver Pro theme sites, such as this site – see documentation).
W3C Markup Validation Service provides insights about site markup.
Woo Rank, while more of an SEO tool, provides some good information on site performance (free version can be used one time per week).
