WordPress Plugin ‘Newsletter’ Offers Powerful Low-Cost Email-List Service

The WordPress plugin ‘Newsletter‘ offers low-cost and powerful email list services for businesses. We are currently using the Newsletter on several sites, for the following reasons:

1. Newsletter offers complete control over the list; you may import email addresses at your discretion, and easily segment the list.
2. The email composer pulls in a list of post extracts from the website, which gives flexibility and control over content. The number of posts can be specified and the posts selected from one or more categories (or tags, using a proprietary module).
3. The plugin is free, although I strongly recommend the low-cost pro version (currently $20/year), which offers drip feeds, and statistics on open rates.
4. Good RSS feed-to-email scheduling
5. Sign-up forms support multiple list choices

NOTES

• The plugin developer (Satollo) recommends maximum send rates of 100 emails per hour. However, the maximum recommended send rate at Hostgator, where I currently host my sites, is 450 per hour (8 per min).
• Mail servers can be set up to send Newsletter emails; however, check with your host service provider to see if they can be integrated; for example, Hostgator does not currently allow such integration.
• The number of Newsletter templates is small, but adequate for most needs; templates can be created.
• Another popular WordPress newsletter plugin is MailPoet Newsletters; I have not tried it, but it is highly recommended.
• Wakker Media Newsletter Checkout Checkbox – a quick solution for adding a checkbox on the Woocommerce Checkout Page for Stefano Lissa’s Newsletter plugin.
