Weaver II Pro WordPress Theme – Complete Customization, and Affordable Too!

I love the free Weaver II WordPress theme, and I love Weaver II Pro even more. Why? Because of the dozens of options for customization, great forums and tech support, and it’s reasonable cost – Weaver II is free, and Weaver II Pro is $30 for personal use and $50 for professional use – for life!

Please check out this theme: Weaver II theme, and Weaver II Pro theme. The theme also comes packed with around 20 sub-themes (see the Weaver sub-theme demo site here). I am NOT an affiliate for this theme by the way!

Compare the options on Weaver II Pro with most other themes. A screenshot of the Weaver II Pro dashboard shows customization options for fonts, menus, content areas, mobile device options, shortcodes, and much much more (the screen shot below only shows some of the settings available on a single tab!) (the green options are for mobile):

The multiplicity of options in the Weaver theme does present one problem – the theme dashboard can be somewhat daunting, until one becomes acquainted with it. See the Weaver II Admin Tabs Search Page, which provides a summary of all the options on one page. You may also wish to try Aspen Theme, “a lean offshoot of Weaver II”.

The Weaver II Pro forum offers additional tips on CSS customization for features that are not available in the Weaver theme menu options. From the Tips and Hints from Users:

Create a Child Theme

Create a Child Theme to customize your site, especially if you need to modify style sheets. In that way, the cusomtizations are maintained for new versions of the site. See some general information from Woothemes, How to Set up and Use a Child Theme, or Elegant Themes How to Create a Child Theme, or Weaver theme, how to create a child theme. I’ve not used it, but the plugin Child Theme Configurator has great reviews!

Create a Weaver Sub-Theme

To create sub-theme add on is now really easy with 1.2.5. The first step is to create a 150 x 100px jpeg image to be used as the Thumbnail of the theme (screen grab the site and resize). Then save all the theme settings .w2t file (in save / Restore) on your PC. Then Package the w2t file and the jpg thumbnail in a zip file. Give all of these the same name.

my-sub-theme.zip containing my-sub-theme.w2t and my-sub-theme.jpg

This Zip file is now a Sub Theme add on that you will soon be able to share and even I think sell through Weaver. Weaver will soon release a new version of its Weaver Theme Extras that will add the management of the sub-theme add on in Weaver II Admin.

Create a fixed-width sidebar: Fixing the width of a sidebar in Weaver responsive layout

Create a Full Width Post

To force a full-width post (an unusual format, but see Local Calendar for Nederland CO) use custom CSS code (in Weaver Pro theme options > Advanced Options > Head Section > Custom CSS):

.postid-xxxx #sidebar_wrap_right {display:none;}
.postid-xxxx #container_wrap {width:100%;}

Website Caching

Caching is recommended, but only two Caching plugins are compatible with Weaver, and exceptions for mobile devices are required (see the documentation > compatible caching plugins). Some users have problems with browser caching when updating the site or creating posts; see Browser Caching When Your Changes Won’t Show.

We will update this list of customizations every so often, as we use many of these features in our installations.

Extend Content to Bottom of Browser

/* Extend content to the bottom of the browser even on short pages */

#wrapper {min-height:100%;}
