Google Plus Engagement

I post techie stuff on Twitter, and share with potential customers on Facebook, but Google+ is where I engage in conversations. Here are some tips to get engaged on Google+.

First a couple of videos from Ryan Hanley, on How to Properly share the five “elements that make up a great Google Plus post”: (1) a nice bold headline (see below for how), (2) a couple of sentences describing why someone should read the post, (3) an active link in the description, even if the photo is linkable (included an image too!), (4) a call to action, inviting a response (a poll, a question, a link to follow), and (5) relevant hashtag(s).

And, the actions you can take every day to engage (and a conversation about business vs. personal pages); the five actions (starting at 4:30): (1) share one piece of original content every day, (2) work through your news feed and +1 and comment if you think you can add value, (3) do the same thing in relevant G+ communities, (4) take the 2 best articles you find a share them to your own feed or the feed of an appropriate community, (5) respond to all G+ comments and notifications (see the post here):

Stephan Hovnanian elaborates on the 5 actions, in A Five-Item To-Do List to Get Started on Your Google Plus Page. Some highlights:

Every time you leave a comment others’ posts, they get a notification, as does everybody else who has commented before you. And every time you leave an insightful comment, everyone else who sees it will hover over your name to check you out.

If you come across a post that would fit with the theme of your brand or industry, share it, and “+mention” (tag) the author. Better yet, leave an encouraging comment on the original post (see No. 2), then go share it.
